From John Wesley and B.T. Roberts to GC15 and Beyond– Part 3
Let It Show
Most of us would prefer to be a little inconspicuous in public settings. We have lived in some large urban settings. I have found it to be generally true that the larger the city or setting, the more reserved and private people tend to be- the impenetrable bubble of personal space in very crowded confines. The smaller the city or setting, the more cordial and engaging the people tend to be. So, we tend to carry our public behaviors into our church communities.
If Jesus has saved you and actually gave you his joy let it be conspicuous, especially when you are with family- your spiritual family as well. Let the Spirit move you and express your passion if you have it. Revivals take place when people allow the Holy Spirit to do his work in them without reservation, whether it is publically confessing sin, demonstrating humility, expressing joy or testifying to the unbelievable goodness of God. What God does inside of us spills out and others are impacted by the God who has wrought that work in us.
B.T. Roberts said, “If your church is cold, throwing cold water upon it will not warm it. Bring in a little fire. Do yourself what you wish others to do. Fire kindles fire. A little blaze among smoldering brands will very often set them aglow. One live person in a dull meeting can completely change its character. His ardent love leads some to see that they have lost their first love. They may say to themselves, ‘I used to feel that way myself. I will get back to the Lord and get my soul blessed. I will not be in this state of luke-warm any more.’”
Do yourself and your church a favor. If Jesus has saved you, let it show.
