One Standard Fits All

Romans 2:1-16

It is human nature to hold different standards for those we love and those we hardly know.  We give a little extra grace to those we love when they fail.  We give less grace to those we hardly know.  All human measurement is markedly subjective and based upon how deeply we are connected with others.

Not so with God.  He shows no favoritism (2:11).  We are reminded in these verses that even though his chosen people were given many opportunities to understand his will and heart, they are measured by what they have done with what they were given and understood.  They were given preferential treatment throughout their history.  What did they do with it?  Conversely, the Gentiles knew very little and had little opportunity to fully understand God, his will and heart.  Nevertheless, God leveled the playing field by giving everyone the opportunity to respond with what they have been given.

Trouble and distress await those who fail to act upon the grace they have received (2:9).  Glory, honor  and peace await those who live out the grace they have received (2:10).  What part of the imprinted grace of God is in your heart and in your hands?
