Wesley Walk Part 7

Pray

“Give me one hundred preachers who fear nothing but sin and desire nothing but God, and I care not a straw whether they be clergymen or laymen; such alone will shake the gates of hell and set up the kingdom of heaven on earth.  God does nothing but in answer to prayer.”  John Wesley

“Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.”  (Ephesians 6:18).

The only way that we get much done in this world is really counterintuitive to conventional wisdom.  We have been led to believe that doing more accomplishes more.  Instead, we must understand that God accomplishes what truly matters.  If we do, we will seek Him, enlist His wisdom and strength and apply all of our efforts to fulfill what he calls us and impassions us to do.  Frenetic pace and activity accomplishes little more than a hurried heart and a ruse of effectiveness.  Turning God-ward reorients us to see things as he sees them and engage the power of the Spirit to deal with our greatest concerns.

I believe we must view prayer as our ultimate tool and our only access to God.  We must see that our minds are truly bankrupt to find solutions for the most important things in life.  We must know that God does unusual and unanticipated things which can only be ascertained by those who come before him and pray, seeking his wisdom.

I believe we will only pray fervently if we truly believe it is the only way to understand and accomplish that which is eternal.
